Honoring Shalon's Legacy: A Holiday Call to Support

Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,

As we embrace the festive spirit of the holiday season, we invite you to join us in a meaningful cause, one that resonates deeply with our hearts – the preservation of black mothers' lives in memory of an extraordinary woman, Dr. Shalon Irving.

On January 28, 2017, we lost Shalon, a brilliant CDC epidemiologist and devoted mother, to complications after giving birth to her daughter Soleil. Despite her exceptional education and a robust support network, Shalon faced life-threatening issues related to pregnancy simply because she was a black woman.

For Shalon, the holiday season was not about presents but the spirit of love, family, and joy. Her infectious smile could light up any room, and she generously shared the warmth of the season with those around her.

Shalon's Maternal Action Project now carries forward her mission. In our grief, we find inspiration. Shalon is more than a statistic; she's an inspiration for a brighter future for black mothers.

How You Can Help:

We invite you to support Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project by contributing to our GoFundMe campaign. Your donation will play a crucial role in increasing awareness of the Black maternal health crisis and promoting strategies for better reproductive health outcomes.

Your generosity will help prevent more empty chairs at holiday gatherings, ensuring that black mothers can share the joy of holidays with their children.

Why It Matters:

The Black maternal health crisis is a stark reality, and we are determined to make a difference. By supporting this cause, you are not only honoring Shalon's legacy but also making a tangible impact on the lives of black mothers and their families.

This season, let's turn grief into action. Let's come together to create positive change, ensuring that every mother, regardless of her background, has the opportunity to experience the joys of motherhood without fear.

Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and commitment to making a difference.

With love and gratitude,

DSMAP
